The Land of Fire and Ice
Time is running out, only 3 days left before we have to board the ferry again and we want to see the Volcano before we leave!
From Volcano to Glacier in one day!
It took us just about one hour to drive from Selfoss to the volcano. What we didn't know was how many tourists had the same idea, and that it was quite a long hike to get there. Fortunately, being from Switzerland, we are used to hiking 😁 We treated it like a race and went up there really fast; the view from the top was marvelous. I had never seen a live volcano before. Unfortunately, we couldn't get too close, and the phone camera was all we had to take pictures, but I will remember that moment forever; to me, it was really something special! We spent some time just watching the volcano spew lava before deciding it was time to get going again. A long ride to Vatnajökull was ahead, and it was already afternoon when we left the parking spot.

The ride to Vatnajökull was all on pavement; we took the ring road all the way. It wasn't the most exciting ride, but we enjoyed the view! We arrived pretty late; I think it was around 8 pm. The food stand was about to close, and as usual, we were quite hungry, but they only had fries left—better than nothing! 😁 (We still had snacks but no proper food!) We set up the tents and went to see the glacier before going to sleep. The pictures at the glacier were taken around 11 pm; it did not get much darker.

Since we were cruising along the smooth pavement of Ring Road 1, we decided to capture the breathtaking variety of Iceland's landscapes with a mesmerizing timelapse. Brace yourself for a visual journey through the diverse beauty of this extraordinary island!
