Hello World
My name is Kenan Regez, born in 1989 (feeling a bit old already!). As a child, I was an avid reader of fantasy novels until the day I encountered a computer in action. That moment ignited my curiosity, compelling me to understand the inner workings of these magical machines.
On my quest to unravel the mysteries of computing, I stumbled upon the world of video games, which utterly fascinated me. Soon after, the internet found its way into households, introducing me to online gaming—a marvel in its own right. While the magic of these experiences has faded somewhat with my improved understanding of technology, they continue to hold a special place in my heart.
I wasn't particularly fond of traditional schooling; my grades suffered because I was only passionate about subjects that truly interested me. Anything else felt like an uphill battle, and my lack of effort resulted in a lower academic level. This posed a challenge when it came time to secure an apprenticeship. I harbored a strong desire to become a software developer, but my school record didn't meet the requirements. In the end, I chose an apprenticeship as an electrician, albeit reluctantly, to avoid unemployment.
After enduring a year in this role and a brief hiatus due to a minor workplace injury, I decided to quit. There were underlying issues at home that further propelled my decision, and although it wasn't the easiest period in my life, it was a necessary one.
Fast forward to the age of 17, I had my own room and embarked on a second apprenticeship in logistics, but it lasted only three months. It was a case of me accepting a job simply because I felt compelled to find something, even if I didn't particularly enjoy it. I never quite understood the concept of committing to something I didn't love. If I disliked a task, I would promptly seek alternatives that resonated with my interests.
This time, it wasn't solely about the job; it was also driven by the need for more income to cover rent, as I'd been ejected from the room my parents had rented for me.
In summary, I joined Rapidshare as an intern, with no prior formal education in the field. During this period, I taught myself coding and discovered the joys of automating tasks to save time and enhance efficiency.
Eventually, I was hired full-time and built strong friendships at work. At the age of 23, I learned about a two-year shortcut school to become a software engineer, specifically designed for those with experience in the computer industry. My parents generously supported me financially, driven by my genuine interest in the subject matter, I achieved decent results.
Finally with 25 years of age, I proudly held my diploma as a Software Developer—quite an accomplishment. It was a mix of gains and losses; I lost friends, relationships, and time. Nonetheless, my optimism always pushed me to focus on the bright side.
I swiftly found a well-paying job nearby, and my life seemed perfect. My commitment to excellence at work led me to invest significant time in learning and development. Unfortunately, this passion slowly shifted from something I wanted to do to something I had to do. It became a monotonous task, no longer enjoyable. I stopped coding in my free time and ceased my pursuit of new knowledge, falling into an unhealthy cycle of work and little else.
On New Year's Eve 2018, I made a resolution to break the cycle I had been trapped in. I decided to sign up for MMA classes. Although I hadn't been actively working out since my teenage years, I was never overweight due to financial constraints. However, I felt like an unhealthy blob and did not like the image I saw in the mirror, especially when I was naked. My desire to get in shape led me to research various fitness options, and I came across MMA as one of the toughest training regimes available. I've always loved a good challenge!
I soon realized that to excel in MMA, I needed to acquire knowledge in a range of disciplines, including Kickboxing, Grappling, Muay Thai, and Boxing. I began my journey with Kickboxing, which not only got me into shape but also served as a foundation for my subsequent training in BJJ and grappling. It wasn't long before I found myself completely hooked on the world of martial arts.
But it served as more of a distraction than a solution. My motivation for work had dwindled, and every morning was a struggle to get out of bed. All I yearned for was to train and hit the open road on my motorbike.
Fortunately, my father offered me an opportunity to work alongside him in construction. It was the perfect chance for me to break free and explore new horizons. I've spent almost two years working with my father on a house he built almost from scratch, a job that teaches me something new nearly every day. I find the work exciting and fulfilling, and it has opened up the opportunity for more travel.
In my spare time, I've been able to launch this blog, explore photography and editing, and dedicate Fridays to learning about engines and motorbikes, which has become a personal passion.
This serves as a brief introduction to my journey. In the future, I may delve into more detailed accounts of my past, as it has been quite an eventful ride!
